Dr. Zhanmin Zhang is Clyde E. Lee Endowed Professor in Transportation Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, where he directs the Resilient Infrastructure and Smart Cities (RISC) Lab. Dr. Zhang has been actively conducting research in large-scale infrastructure systems simulation and analysis, risk and resilience of infrastructure systems and communities, optimal resource allocation, innovative financing mechanisms, and intelligent infrastructure for smart cities. As a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Zhang has conducted research projects totaling more than $34.3 million sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the City of Austin, and the industry. As Chair of the Emerging Technologies Council of ASCE Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI), he oversees five technical committees: Connected &Autonomous Vehicle Impacts, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Data Sensing & Analytics, and Mobility as a Service. Dr. Zhang is an author or co-author of more than 250 technical papers, reports, and articles and has delivered more than 180 oral presentations nationally and internationally. Dr. Zhang was also selected to receive the 2012 ASCE James Laurie Prize. He was selected to receive the Best Paper Award of the “International Conference on Managing Pavement Assets” in 2011 and 2015 consecutively. More recently, he was selected to receive the 2020 Literati Awards for “Outstanding Paper” published in 2019 by Emerald Publishing.
