Assistant Professor
University of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, PA, United States
Dr. Alessandro Fascetti received his Master’s degree in 2012 in Civil Engineering from the University of Rome “Sapienza”. He obtained a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the same institution in 2016. During his studies, he also conducted research as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Davis. In 2016 he became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Multiscale Computational Mechanics Laboratory (MCML) of Vanderbilt University in Nashville (TN). He joined The University of Waikato in 2018 to serve as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering.
His work focuses on various aspects of civil infrastructure, ranging from failure mechanics and durability aspects, to 3-dimensional reconstruction and digital twin modeling. He combins multiscale computational approaches with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools to predict the response of infrastructure systems at the regional and national level, providing information on these systems at an observational scale that is meaningful in the context of science-based decision making.
