Senior Research Engineer
ARA, United States
Mr. Pullen joined ARA in 2005. He is currently a senior research engineer in the Engineering Science Division of the Transportation Sector. Mr. Pullen has led many studies to develop and characterize pavement materials and technologies for airfield and highway agencies. He is currently PI on multiple projects sponsored by the USAF to develop, characterize, and model pavement methods and equipment to improve rapid airfield construction, sustainment, and recovery. Many of these projects involve partnering with US and international agencies, industry, and academia to develop technologies allowing deployment of new advanced rigid pavement construction materials and technologies to decrease recurring maintenance. He has been involved with modernizing airfield damage repair for the USAF, pelletized asphalt, runway rubber removal and friction testing, non-destructive pavement testing, and advanced materials testing. Mr. Pullen has also conducted numerous forensic investigations to evaluate pavement failures due to material and construction related issues. Mr. Pullen has lead technology transfer projects in the US and abroad to demonstrate new concepts and methods for pavement construction and maintenance to US and allie military forces. Mr. Pullen has additional expertise in in computational mechanics and constitutive modeling of materials and pavements, in-situ material characterization, experimental design, and statistical analysis.
