Scott Murrell is Director of Commercial Airport Services for Applied Research Associates (ARA), joining the firm in September of 2015. Scott is currently the lead Civil Engineer for the Pavement Consulting Contract supporting the FAA’s Airport Technology Research and Development Division. The scope of this support includes:
o Analysis of full scale acerated test and laboratory test data, including using Artificial Intelligence.
o Updating FAA pavement related software (FAARFIELD, PAVEAIR, BAKFAA, ProFAA and ProGroove).
o NDT data collection, research, and data analysis.
o Test pavement design including instrumentation. Quality Assurance during construction.
o Extension of runway life from 20 to 40 years, including field data collection (PCI, HWD, Profiles, GPR, texture)
o Heavy Vehicle Simulator testing to study the effects of high tire pressures on Asphalt
Prior to joining ARA, he was the Chief Civil Engineer the Port Authority of NY & NJ (PANYNJ). During his 33 year career with PANYNJ he led the engineering of numerous airport pavement, evaluation and design projects. Notable projects included:
o Development of the $500 million seven-year paving program for Port Authority airports, using pavement management systems
o Design of the +$300 million Reconstruction of Runway 13R-31L at JFK
o Design of the +$300 million Reconstruction of Runway 4L-22R at JFK
o Extension of Runway 4L-22R at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
